First off, I have a little bit of a beef. Why did no one warn you that when you become an adult there is so much to take care of before a road trip?! Like, no one said you’ll pay rent, electric, groceries, and oh yeah you have to scrub your walls before you leave on a trip. That’s a real struggle I have, so if you can pray for me.
Despite how annoying it is, giving your house a good deep clean before leaving it on a vacation is so helpful! It’s the best to come back to your house after weeks away. And, it’s even better when it’s clean. One of the best feelings!
Here’s how I prepared our house for our two -week vacation and our house sitters. Maybe the two- week check list will help you to!

A two week cleaning checklist for when you are preparing your house for a long vacation.

Pre Vacation Two Week Cleaning Checklist!

As anybody who has kids, or lives in their house, you probably know that it’s hard to keep a house spotless. So, although we had known about our trip for a month, there just isn’t much you can do before the actual week you leave. It will just continue to get messy. But, I tried to still go as far out as I could. I split up the two weeks into 1. Deep/ uncommon cleaning and 2. Real good normal cleaning.

Two weeks out :

Walls and base boards

Organize

I focused this week on cleaning walls and base boards. I started in the kitchen. And, worked my way up to our bedroom. I also worked on organizing areas that our guests would see. Kitchen pantry. Bathroom under sinks. And, the kid cave because it was just too much!

One week out :

All

Of

The

Things

If you have gone on a road trip as the grown up of the house, you know it’s chaos week of. Despite how well I thought I’d divided up tasks I was still up until midnight running around. So, maybe that’s just the inevitable. But, it sure was nice checking off tasks throughout the week and being able to see the benefits of my work. Our house looked so beautiful when we pulled out-of-town that day, I told my hubby I think I should do that type of cleaning once a month.
That could have also been my up for 13 hours cleaning talking. We’ll see 😉
